St Petersburg - The Home of Fabergé

Peter Carl Fabergé, court jeweller to Emperor Alexander III, began to make his world-famous Easter eggs in 1885, with one egg made as a gift for the Empress Maria, wife of Alexander. In the following eleven years Fabergé created one egg a year, presented as a gift every Easter, from the Tsar to the Tsarina. Nicholas II continued this tradition of ordering Easter eggs from Fabergé, and fifty-four of them had been created in total by 1916. Every egg is a masterpiece of the jeweller's art.
