Masterpieces of Photography in the Astoria and Angleterre Hotels
Masterpieces of Photography is a joint project between the Astoria and Angleterre hotels, and the Marina Gisich Gallery. The exhibition presents a collection of some of St Petersburg’s most well-known photographers; transforms a part of these two legendary hotels into an artistic space; and acquaints both guests and residents of the city with some of the best contemporary photographers: Alexander Chernogrivov, Alexander Kitayev, Yevgeny Mokhorev, and Maxim Ivanov.
At present in the lobby of the Angleterre Hotel there is an exhibition of a cycle of photographs by Alexander Chernogrivov, titled Reflections. The main theme is that of water and St Petersburg. These are unique works, executed using the technique of photomontage. The highways of the city, transmuted through water, make it possible to look at St Petersburg with new eyes, re-envisaging the mood and spirit of the Venice of the North.
